One is Fun! Celebrating First Year Birthdays

August 29, 2010

My niece is turning one year’s old in a few weeks’ time. How time flies! I still remember her when she was a chubby little mite who cannot even open her eyes. Now she can crawl (at super speed!), babble and even tickle her mummy (that’s a story for another day).

Now that she is reaching a major milestone in her life (yeah!), we are planning a good celebration for her.

Here are some of things to consider when planning the all important First Year Birthday:

Do you want a big bash with all your friends and family celebrating together? Or a simple affair with just a few closer family members? Both are great ideas, so the considerations are whether you have the time to plan the affair and the budget that you wish to set aside. Also, consider the personality of the baby (hey, he / she is the star after all!). Is your baby an extroverted one who just loves attention, or a shy little baby?

The decision on location has to be made in tandem with the first one above. If you want a big scale party, you will have to find a good location that can accommodate all your guests. Some possible places are:

  • Condominium  Function Room – if you live in a condomium, this is a hassle-free choice since you can easily go up to take things from your home, or bring baby up to change his / her diapers. If you do not live in a condominium, ask around if your close friends or relatives are willing to help you reserve a function room for you. Do also check if your friend / relative is willing to let you up to your home to put all the baby stuff that you will be bringing to his home, or just go up for a short retreat if your baby is fussing.

  • At your own home – This is, of course, the easiest choice since it is free and all your baby necessities are in the house. However, if your house is not big enough, or if you are concerned that the guests will mess up your place, then this may not be an optimal choice.

  • Chalets – There are lots of great chalets in Singapore that offer a good sizeable space to hold a party. And it’s pretty affordable too! Here’s a list of some of the chalets in Singapore.

What’s a birthday party without a good cake? Nowadays, first year celebration cakes are getting more beautiful and tasty too. Some possible places to order birthday cakes are as follows:

Haven Bakery The cakes look really “havenly” (pun intended).

Moo Baker  These are customized 3-D cakes. Look really impressive!

Bengawan Solo  How can we forget the good old Bengawan Solo that we all grew up with. Nice and tasty cakes at affordable prices.

7th Manna Cakes – Fans of 7th Manna will be glad to know that they also do children’s cakes.

Finally, where to get good supplies of first year birthday decorations? Here’s some of the good sites that I found:

Whatever kind of celebrations that you choose to have, remember to take lots of photos and videos! And the most important thing is: have a whole lot of Great Fun!
